This probe system for subway irrigation is the perfect complement to your drip irrigation. With this system a total water saving is achieved, since it gets the water directly to the roots of our crops.
The irrigation probe simply consists of a main body and a mechanical operating indicator together with a cover.
For installation, a hole must be drilled the size of the probe and deep enough so that it is flush with the surface, the end of the microtube and the dripper is inside the irrigation probe and everything is covered.
Advantages
Some of the main and most important advantages provided by the integration of the subway irrigation probe are the following:
- It achieves the non-evaporation of water, as it does not fall on the surface and goes to the roots, we make a much more efficient use and we will need less irrigation time, thus saving water and energy to get it to the roots.
- If irrigation is also done with fertilizers we will achieve an even more effective use for the same reason that water and fertilizers get to where they are needed.
- We avoid waterlogging, a very important aspect for the ecosystem, since we also preserve the environment from possible poisoning by not having water accessible.
- We prevent the roots from rising to the surface so we will take care of our crops at the time of tillage.
- The irrigation material suffers less the inclemency of the weather to be all buried thus decreasing maintenance and increasing the life time of rubber and pipelines.
- On the other hand, it also facilitates work in the field since everything is underground.
- Reduced risk of diseases and pests, subway irrigation prevents leaves and foliage from getting wet, which reduces the risk of diseases and pests that can proliferate in humid environments.
- The operation of the drippers can be checked at a glance, with the red coloring of the stem.
Components included in the irrigation probe
The main body delivers water from the dripper to a depth of 31 centimeters, which has many advantages:
The assembly is closed by the cover, making the mechanism isolated from the outside. This cover is connected to a cup by means of a rod and a spring.
In this video you can see the elements and their assembly.
Operation
The system works as follows, it has three states:
- As shown in the previous image, this is the initial state, if watering has begun and the red colored part of the stem is visible, this indicates that there is a problem in the dripper and no water is reaching the soil.
- As soon as watering starts, the water from the dripper falls into the cuvette causing the spring to elongate, so the red colored part of the stem will be hidden and the naked eye can see that the system is working, watering is taking place.
- The third state occurs when the soil is flooded, the irrigation probe fills with water and the cuvette, by floating, raises the stem so that it can be distinguished from a distance and indicates that the soil will not admit any more water and we can stop irrigation.
In this video you can see the assembly of the irrigation probe.
